Why Arabica makes better cold brew

Cold water is honest

Brewing cold pulls out sweetness and body but very little of the harsh bitterness that heat extracts. Whatever is in the bean shows up in the glass, so the bean matters more, not less.

Arabica brings the sweetness

Arabica carries more natural sugars and aromatics than robusta, which tends to taste flat and rubbery when brewed cold. Ours is sun-dried in the cherry, which adds a gentle, fruity sweetness.

Nothing to hide

Most cold brew in India is made from blends, sometimes cut with chicory, then sweetened to cover it up. This is a single origin you can drink black, over ice, with no syrup.

Make it tonight

1 : 8

100g coffee to 800ml cold water.
Makes a concentrate. Dilute 1 : 1.

  1. Mix. Add 100g of coffee to a jar and pour in 800ml of cold, filtered water. Stir so every ground is wet.
  2. Steep. Cover and leave it in the fridge for 12 to 18 hours. Longer is stronger, not more bitter.
  3. Strain. Pour through a muslin cloth or a paper filter. This is your concentrate; it keeps up to a week in the fridge.
  4. Pour. One part concentrate to one part water or milk, over plenty of ice. Taste it black first.

Most coffee comes from somewhere. This comes from one place.

Arehalli sits where the hills of the Western Ghats soften and the forests begin. Coffee grows here at about 1,055 metres, under shade trees and pepper vines, beside paths elephants have used for centuries.

We work directly with Geergal Estate and a small co-operative of farmers in the village, and roast in small batches.

₹39

A glass, roughly. One 250g bag makes about two litres of concentrate, or 20 glasses of cold brew. A fraction of a café cold brew, made with single-village Arabica.

Questions

Ground or whole beans for cold brew?

Both work. Ground is ready to steep; strain it through a cloth or paper filter for a clean glass. If you own a grinder, whole beans ground coarse (like breadcrumbs) give the cleanest, sweetest result and stay fresh longer.

Can I use the Signature Blend?

It is made for hot coffee with milk. The chicory in it turns heavy and muddy when brewed cold, so for cold brew we recommend the 100% Arabica.

Is cold brew less acidic?

Cold brewing extracts fewer of the sharp, bitter compounds than hot brewing, so most people find it smoother and gentler. Our medium-dark roast already has soft acidity.

Is shipping extra?

No. Every price you see includes shipping and taxes, anywhere in India.
