Cortado at home

A cortado that holds its own against the milk.

Equal parts strong coffee and warm milk, and nothing to hide behind. The Signature Blend is single-village Arabica with 20% roasted chicory, so it stays rich and round where lighter coffees go thin. Works in an espresso machine or a moka pot.

Why this blend makes a better cortado

Half the cup is milk

A cortado is about 1:1, so the coffee has nowhere to hide. Thin, bright coffees disappear under the milk. This one is meant to come through it.

Chicory brings the body

Roasted chicory root adds weight and a dark, cocoa-like depth, the same reason South Indian filter coffee tastes so full with milk.

Arabica keeps it smooth

The base is 100% Arabica from Arehalli, sun-dried and medium-dark roasted, so the cup is round and sweet rather than harsh.

Make it in five minutes

1 : 1

About 60ml strong coffee to 60ml warm milk.
Serve in a small glass.

  1. Brew. Espresso machine: 15–18g for a double shot, about 60ml. Moka pot: fill the basket level, brew on medium heat and take it off as soon as it starts to sputter.
  2. Warm the milk. Heat 60ml of milk until it is hot to the touch but not boiling, and give it a short froth. A cortado wants silky milk, not a cap of foam.
  3. Pour. Coffee first, then the milk, in a 120–150ml glass.
  4. Sip. Taste it as it is first. Add sugar only if you miss it.

Brewing notes, on the back of every bag

Most coffee comes from somewhere. This comes from one place.

Arehalli sits where the hills of the Western Ghats soften and the forests begin. Coffee grows here at about 1,055 metres, under shade trees and pepper vines, beside paths elephants have used for centuries.

The Signature Blend is that single-village Arabica with 20% roasted chicory root, the way coffee has long been made in South Indian homes: rich, low in acidity, and made to meet milk.

₹41

A cup, roughly. At 15g a cortado, one 250g bag makes about 16. A fraction of a café cortado.

Questions

Will it work in my espresso machine?

Yes. It comes pre-ground. On home machines, a pressurised (dual-wall) basket is the most forgiving with pre-ground coffee. If your shots run fast and watery, use a little more coffee and tamp firmly.

No machine. Can I still make a cortado?

Yes. A moka pot makes a strong, concentrated coffee that works well 1:1 with warm milk.

Why is there chicory in it?

Chicory is a roasted root that has been part of South Indian coffee for generations. It adds body and a smooth, dark finish that stands up to milk. If you prefer coffee black, try our 100% Arabica Single Origin.
