The decoction drips slowly. Nobody rushes it.

The coffee is grown by a group of small farmers in Arehalli, under shade trees and pepper vines, on red earth that elephants crossed long before plantations took root.

We roast it for the filter and blend it with chicory for that thick, familiar body that stands up to hot milk and a spoon of sugar.

Making it

  1. Add three heaped spoons to the upper chamber of your filter and press lightly.
  2. Pour freshly boiled water to the brim, close, and leave it for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Mix one part decoction with three parts hot milk. Sugar to taste. Pour between tumbler and dabarah until it froths.
₹21

A cup at home, roughly, from one 250g bag at 8g a cup. A fraction of a café coffee, and it tastes like mornings in the Western Ghats.

Does it work without a filter?

Yes. A moka pot or a French press makes a strong decoction too. Use a little less coffee than you would in a filter.

Why chicory?

Chicory gives filter coffee its body and slight bitterness. It is how filter coffee has been made in South India for over a century.

Is shipping extra?

No. Every price you see includes shipping and taxes, anywhere in India.
