Why this blend makes better cold coffee

Cold milk mutes coffee

Ice, milk and sugar flatten most coffees into sweet milk. You need a strong, full-bodied coffee to come through, and that is what chicory blends are for.

Chicory gives the classic taste

That dark, smooth, almost chocolatey note of a good Indian cold coffee comes from chicory. Ours is 20%, enough for depth without hiding the Arabica.

Real coffee, no premix

No instant powder, no flavouring. Single-village Arabica from Arehalli, sun-dried and medium-dark roasted.

Make a glass in five minutes

15g : 250ml

Two heaped tablespoons of coffee for one tall glass of milk.
Sweeten to taste.

  1. Brew strong. Steep 15g (two heaped tablespoons) in 60ml of just-boiled water for four minutes, in a French press or a steel filter. Strain and let it cool. Make a batch and keep it in the fridge for up to three days.
  2. Blend. Add the coffee, 250ml of cold milk, 2–3 teaspoons of sugar and a handful of ice to a blender.
  3. Froth. Blend on high for 30–45 seconds, until it is thick and foamy on top.
  4. Pour. Pour into a tall glass over more ice. For the café version, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

Brewing notes, on the back of every bag

Most coffee comes from somewhere. This comes from one place.

Arehalli sits where the hills of the Western Ghats soften and the forests begin. Coffee grows here at about 1,055 metres, under shade trees and pepper vines, beside paths elephants have used for centuries.

The Signature Blend is that single-village Arabica with 20% roasted chicory root, the way coffee has long been made in South Indian homes: rich, low in acidity, and made to meet milk.

₹41

A glass, roughly. At 15g a glass, one 250g bag makes about 16. A fraction of a café cold coffee, and no premix.

Questions

Can I make it without a blender?

Yes. Shake the coffee, milk, sugar and ice hard in a closed jar or bottle for 30 seconds. It won't be quite as thick, but it will be frothy.

Can I make the coffee ahead?

Yes. Brew a larger batch of the strong coffee, cool it and keep it in a closed bottle in the fridge for up to three days.

Why is there chicory in it?

Chicory is a roasted root that has been part of South Indian coffee for generations. It adds body and the smooth, dark finish that makes cold coffee taste like cold coffee.

Is shipping extra?

No. Every price you see includes shipping and taxes, anywhere in India.

How do I pay?
